GRADELEVEL ("Gradelevel", "we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of parents, guardians, and children who use our app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
Please read this policy carefully. By using GRADELEVEL, you agree to the practices described below.
1. Who We Are
GRADELEVEL is an educational app designed to help parents of elementary school children understand California K–5 academic standards in plain, friendly language. The app is operated by Judy Kozina, based in Lodi, California.

2. Information We Collect
2a. Information You Provide
When you create an account or use GRADELEVEL, we may collect:
- Email address (used to create and manage your account)
- Password (stored securely and encrypted — we never see your actual password)
- Your child's grade level (selected by you within the app)
- Skill progress and checklist completions (saved to your account so your progress is remembered between visits)
2b. Information Collected Automatically
When you use GRADELEVEL, we automatically collect certain technical information, including:
- Device type and operating system
- Browser type and version
- Pages or features accessed within the app
- Date and time of your visits
- General geographic location (country/region level only — not your precise address)
This information is used to improve the app, fix bugs, and understand how parents use GRADELEVEL.
2c. Payment Information
If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed by Stripe, a secure third-party payment processor. GRADELEVEL does not store your credit card number, bank account information, or other payment details. Stripe's privacy policy governs how your payment information is handled. You can review it at stripe.com/privacy.
2d. Information We Do NOT Collect
GRADELEVEL does not collect:
- Your child's name, photo, school, or any personally identifiable information about your child
- Your home address or phone number
- Social media profile information
- Any information from children directly — all accounts are created by parents or guardians
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your GRADELEVEL account
- Save your progress so your checklists and skill tracking are preserved between visits
- Send you important account information (such as password reset emails)
- Improve the app based on how it is used
- Respond to your support requests or feedback
- Process subscription payments (handled by Stripe)
- Send occasional product updates or news about GRADELEVEL — you can unsubscribe at any time
We do NOT sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes. Ever.
4. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
GRADELEVEL is designed for parents and guardians of children, NOT for use directly by children. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
- Children under 13 should not create accounts or use GRADELEVEL directly.
- All accounts must be created by a parent or guardian aged 18 or older.
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
- If we discover that a child under 13 has created an account without parental consent, we will delete that account and its associated data promptly.
If you believe your child has provided personal information to GRADELEVEL without your consent, please contact us immediately at gradelevelcustomerservice@gmail.com and we will remove the information within 48 hours.
5. How We Share Your Information
We share your information only in the following limited circumstances:
5a. Service Providers
We use trusted third-party services to operate GRADELEVEL. These providers have access to your information only to perform specific tasks on our behalf and are obligated to protect it:
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider (stores your account data and progress)
- Stripe — our payment processor (handles subscription payments)
- Lovable / our web host — the platform where GRADELEVEL is hosted
5b. Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government regulation, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of GRADELEVEL, our users, or the public.
5c. Business Transfer
If GRADELEVEL is ever acquired, merged, or sold, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email and/or a notice on our app before your information is transferred and subject to a different privacy policy.
5d. With Your Consent
We may share your information for any other purpose with your explicit consent.
6. Data Security
We take the security of your information seriously. We use industry-standard measures including:
- Encrypted password storage (your password is hashed and salted — even we cannot read it)
- Secure HTTPS connections for all data transmission
- Supabase's enterprise-grade database security for stored data
However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it to gradelevelcustomerservice@gmail.com.
7. Data Retention
We retain your account information and progress data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it longer.
Anonymized, aggregated data (such as general usage statistics with no personal identifiers) may be retained indefinitely to help us improve the app.
8. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
8a. Access and Correction
You can view and update your account information at any time by logging into GRADELEVEL and visiting your account settings.
8b. Deletion
You can delete your GRADELEVEL account at any time from your account settings, or by emailing us at gradelevelcustomerservice@gmail.com. Deleting your account will permanently remove your progress data.
8c. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect, use, and share
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Opt out of the sale of your personal information (note: we do not sell your information)
- Non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

8d. Email Communications
You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or by contacting us directly. You will still receive essential account-related emails (such as password resets).
9. Cookies and Tracking
GRADELEVEL uses cookies and similar technologies to:
- Keep you logged into your account
- Remember your preferences
- Understand how the app is used (analytics)
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect some features of GRADELEVEL, such as staying logged in.
10. Third-Party Links
GRADELEVEL may contain links to external websites or resources (such as California Department of Education pages). We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those external sites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any information.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you by email and/or by posting a notice in the app. The date at the top of this policy will always reflect when it was last updated.
Your continued use of GRADELEVEL after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
